Alabama QB Ty Simpson eclipsed the 300-yard passing mark (340 yds, 2 TDs, INT) for the second time this season against Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon.
Alabama’s Ty Simpson continued his torrid early season pace with a 340-yard, two-touchdown passing performance against Vanderbilt (5-1). Defensively, the Crimson Tide slowed down Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia by forcing two turnovers in the Red Zone.
Sedrick Alexander’s 65-yard touchdown scamper put Vanderbilt up 7-0 in the first quarter. Shortly thereafter, a 47-yard missed field goal attempt by Alabama’s Conor Talty gave the Commodores a chance to grab a two-score lead. A six-play, 64-yard drive drove them to the Crimson Tide’s 13-yard line, but Alabama linebacker Justin Jefferson forced a fumble on Pavia that was recovered by defensive tackle Tim Keenan III.
Two Talty field goals put the Crimson Tide up 20-14 in the third quarter. The Commodores drove 58 yards on six plays to reach Alabama’s 17-yard line, but a Keon Sabb interception of Pavia set up a third Talty field goal of the half. The 30-yard field goal came after a 16-play, 69-yard drive ate up over eight minutes of the clock.
