West Virginia sophomore WR-KR Marcus Simms (No. 8 pictured) finished 2017 second in the Big 12 in kickoff return average (26.3 yds/KR). On top of that he contributed 35 receptions for 663 yards (18.9 YPR) and 5 TDs in the Mountaineers’ air-raid attack.
Utah DL Lowell Lotulelei didn’t have his best year statistically (just 3.5 TFLs), but his performance in the 2017 Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl included a bevy of arm-overs inside at the zero-technique, frequent appearances at the five-technique DE spot and plenty of backfield penetration.
Utah punter Mitch Wishnowsky (No. 33 pictured) has proven to be quite an athlete in school. The Pac-12’s second-leading punter had a tackle in this game on a near breakout kickoff return by Marcus Simms and finished the year with five tackles.
Despite giving up some yardage on the ground, West Virginia DC Tony Gibson brought plenty of heat after Huntley and the Utes. LB Xavier Preston posted one of six quarterback sacks for the Mountaineers.
West Virginia WR Ka’Raun White (No. 2 pictured and younger brother of Chicago Bears WR Kevin White) became the second member of the White family to eclipse the 1,000-yard barrier with this touchdown catch in the fourth quarter.
