Houston quarterback Connor Weigman (No. 1 pictured making No. 37 Martavius French miss) was a major factor on the ground for the team in 2025. His 11 rushing touchdowns ranked third in the conference. Weigman also passed for 21 TDs in 2025.
Colorado (1-2) -fresh off a 24-point victory versus Delaware- traveled to Houston on Friday night for an early season Big 12 clash. The Cougars (3-0) won the conference opener by 14 points largely due to a balanced offensive attack (221 yards passing, 209 yards rushing).
Houston quarterback Connor Weigman led the way with 222 yards passing and added 83 yards on the ground (two rush TDs). The Buffaloes countered with sophomore signal-caller Ryan Staub, making just his second career start.
Staub had his moments with 240 total yards (204 PASS, 36 RUSH) and one touchdown. He also fumbled a ball at the goal line that was recovered by Buffaloes teammate Zach Atkins for another score. However, he also threw two interceptions and took three quarterback sacks.
The Cougars suffocating defensive performance was led by defensive tackle Carlos Allen. Allen accounted for seven tackles, one-and-a-half tackles for loss and one pass break-up. Defensive linemate Eddie Walls III also contributed three tackles, a quarterback sack and one-and-a-half tackles for loss.
