Can Georgia State’s Glover become school’s second OL draft pick?
2 min readGeorgia State offensive lineman Travis Glover -a 2023 first-team All-Sun Belt selection- embraced the postseason opportunity. For most of the second half in the 2024 Senior Bowl, he competed favorably at the all-important left tackle spot.
The veteran ranks second in school history to former Panther Shamarious Gilmore (59) in career starts (57). Georgia State football (founded in 2010) has had just three players selected since its inception. Only one of those names was an offensive lineman. Gilmore did start 10 games in 2023 for the USFL’s Philadelphia Stars. He now plays for the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL.
Can Glover follow in the footsteps of former Georgia State offensive tackle Ulrick John?
John, a seventh-round pick (232nd overall) of the Indianapolis Colts in 2014, played for six NFL teams. He was a member on the New England Patriots 2018 world championship squad. John started three games in six years.
The draft picks haven’t been plentiful, but we have featured former Panthers who’ve gone on to have NFL success. Glover’s size (6’6, 338) makes him a noteworthy Day 3 candidate in the 2024 NFL Draft.
In 2022, the Panthers aided his goal by starting him at left guard in the team’s first four games. While the work there was not exemplary, Glover moves bodies as a run blocker. In addition, he has proven capable of hitting moving targets when releasing in space.
Glover’s 84 3/8-inch wingspan works in his favor on the outside lanes. He can keep defenders at bay with less than stellar technique. And his experience at multiple spots (left guard, right tackle, left tackle) makes him an attractive backup or practice squad candidate for NFL teams.
We dive into Glover’s game in our video spotlight (see above) and highlight some of his strengths and weaknesses.
