Iowa CB Cooper DeJean picks off a second quarter pass in the 2022 Music City Bowl

Iowa sophomore CB Cooper DeJean picks off this second quarter pass intended for Kentucky wide receiver Barrion Brown and scores a touchdown.

Cooper DeJean has aligned as a nickel linebacker, cornerback, punt returner and gunner during his time in school for the Hawkeyes. We went in-depth on the team’s outstanding defensive unit this past January in our 2022 Transperfect Music City Bowl photo gallery.

DeJean’s plays a physical brand of football and exhibits top-notch instincts on a weekly basis. His three interception returns for scores tied Washington Commanders 2023 first-round pick Emmanuel Forbes for first in the nation a year ago.

The humble veteran defensive back was quick to point out others after his MVP performance:

“Winning MVP…I think is more of a team award, because without these guys on defense I couldn’t do what I was able to do,” DeJean offered modestly. “Those guys were pressuring the quarterback all game. A lot of credit to the guys up front and everybody else on the defense.”

Iowa led the nation with seven defensive touchdowns in 2022.

We spotlight his versatile game in our video recap.
