Pittsburgh Pirates fifth-round pick Patrick Reilly

Patrick Reilly, an off-and-on Vanderbilt starting option, brings 98 miles per hour heat at its best to opposing hitters.

The Pittsburgh Pirates continued to draft arms with its fifth-round selection (140th overall) of Vanderbilt RHP Patrick Reilly, a burly 6-foot-4, 230-pound hurler. Reilly’s ERA has always hovered around five and he started just 14 games in 49 career appearances.

With an impressive repertoire of fastball heat and off speed change-up, there are possibilities for the former Commodore as either a middle reliever or closer if he can be more consistent throwing strikes. Reilly finished with a 2.01 career strikeout-to-walk ratio, which borders along the cutoff spot for some major league clubs.

We go inside the vast array of pitches within Reilly’s game in our spotlight on the former Christian Brothers Academy (N.J.) star.
