The Miami Marlins selected Vanderbilt ace relief pitcher Nick Maldonado in the eighth round of the 2023 MLB Draft (233rd overall). Maldonado sported a robust 1.45 ERA in 31 innings pitched for the Commodores this past season.
In the 2021 campaign, he finished with a career-high 59 strikeouts and forced 47 ground outs in 50 innings. Maldonado was one of four Vanderbilt pitchers (Hunter Owen, Patrick Reilly, Thomas Schultz) to be selected in this year’s draft.
